On May 2, 2026, Lindol Comics was one of over 40 creatives that participated in Free Comic Book Day 2026/Comics Giveaway Day 2026 (Araw Ng Libreng Komiks). Sponsored by Comic Odyssey, the annual event not only celebrated our collective love for the medium, but also gave us the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones along the way.

Patrons and creatives were allowed to choose two (2) comic books from over 42 different titles. My choices: Something Is Killing The Children: Road To Slaughter (Comics Giveaway Day Edition) and The Nice House on the Lake: Book ONE (Free Comic Book Day Edition).

From my perspective, the annual event was well received with patrons either lining up—a snake-like coil around the Robinson’s Galleria Main Atrium—for their free books or immediately heading to tables to buy local indie comic books or request for sketches.

On behalf of Randy Valiente, we would like to again extend our gratitude to Sandy, Ate Rowena, Nick, Ate Ning, Izza, and the rest of the Comic Odyssey family for making Free Comic Book Day (Araw Ng Libreng Komiks) and the inaugural Comics Giveaway Day (CGD) a resounding success.

Lindol Comics will return in Super Manila Comic Con 2026 [Artist Alley].

Given the responsibilities brought about by everyday life, finding that perfect moment to learn and reflect has become equally as challenging. I have found a solution—or rather, a compromise—to present itself in the form of podcasts: Podcasts of consequence that can be leisurely consumed during gaps in our respective schedules.

During one such session, I came across a podcast interview featuring Mimi Kwa, a second generation Chinese-Australian, who provided great insight on her writing process and challenges. Later on, I came across a writing prompt in one of her social media posts and was drawn to it instantly.

Life learnings

On her 50th birthday, Mimi spent part of her day writing down 50 things that she had learned in her life. It was an exercise that immediately appealed to me as it would offer me a similar opportunity to reflect on my own life. As of this writing, I have written down about 30 things that I have found significant. Three of which are featured below.

One: For the longest time, I have had this quote featured on my personal website,

"While you’re at home resting, someone out there is working hard." (Gilbert Arenas, Sr.).

As I have matured, I have come to the realization that I cannot—and should not—expect the same level of intensity and commitment from others. Expectations, if any, should always be tempered and center instead on the willingness of that individual to bring their “best effort.”

For as long as an individual brings the necessary effort, then anything is possible.

Two: Be good; Do good; Help others and be of service. Always tell the truth… and be honest, even when no one is looking. That is the true test of character. Remember, your name is your most valuable asset. Once lost, it is something that money cannot buy.

Lastly, always be respectful towards others and find comfort in the hope that they were raised the right way to offer you a similar courtesy.

Three: Do not be “Tipid” (Thrifty) with your love. The reality is: We. Don’t. Know. This may be it. So, make time to say what needs to be said. Not limited to romantic love, an effort should be made to let other people know how much they have touched your life.

With this in mind, Lindol Comics wouldn't exist if it were not for the time, effort, generosity, and understanding of a great many individuals.

On August 31, 2025, fourteen recipients (9 individuals and our 4 retail/online partners) will be honored for their respective contributions in growing the Lindol brand and it’s spin-off titles such as OBIsessions and (From the pages of Lindol comes…) The Imperials.

Lindol Comics in 2020

While sitting at the Lindol Comics table during the two-day (February 8 and 9) Komiket: The Filipino Komiks and Art Market 2020 event, it never really sunk in that our first convention of the year would also turn out to be our last. 

No matter how much I tried to ignore it, there were small signs here and there. For one, alcohol dispensers were situated in almost every other row of tables. We were also discouraged from shaking hands. 

My initial thought was, “Just some minor inconveniences. Things will eventually get better.”

Five weeks later, they didn’t. Just progressively worse. 

As I look back, I am still happy that we got to have that Megatrade Hall 2 experience in Megamall.

With everything that has been happening in the world, at least that is something I can fondly look back on whenever I think of 2020.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, time for some good news.

The Good News for 2021!

Randy and I are happy to announce that Lindol #6 and Lindol #7 are finished! Currently, we’ve started on Issue #8 as well as exploring options on how to distribute Issues #6 and #7. Stay tuned!

As part of the Ayala Museum Francisco V. Coching's centennial celebration, Lindol Comics will be among several exhibitors during Pagbati sa Hari: A Day of Komik Pop-Ups and Talks Celebrating 100 Years of Francisco V. Coching.

The event will be held at the Ground Floor of Ayala Museum on January 26, 2019 (Saturday | 9:00 am to 6:00 pm).

Ramon Eduardo Gustilo Villasor, Sr., Ph.D. has a private practice at the Makati Medical Center specializing in counseling and sport psychology. As of December 2016, he has also expanded his practice to Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa.

Nicknamed Tedi, Dr. Villasor has worked with athletes from a number of sports including basketball teams on almost every level including the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), Philippine Basketball League (PBL), ASEAN Basketball League (ABL), and the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Randy Valiente (Creator, Artist)

Randy Valiente is a local (Philippine komiks) writer and international artist. His works includes Animen and Fairie’s Wheel for Black Ink; Vampirella, Army of Darkness, Re-Animator and Twilight Zone for Dynamite; Grimm Fairy Tales and Wonderland for Zenescope; and Headlocked for Visionary.  He is also the author of the children’s book Sampaguita for Vibal Chikiting Books.

Randy is an advocate and serious collector of Philippine komiks which inspired him to come up with the book Komiks sa Paningin ng mga Tagakomik (2007) and the magazine Pinoy Komiks Rebyu (2009).
